what is experimental music?
If ever there was a meaningless term for a genre of music, it is "experimental". Implied is that the music
is more of an experiment rather than an actual accomplishment or work of art to be appreciated. Where this may be the case
for some exploratory projects or ill-conceived ideas that never reach finished form, the label "experimental" is
all too often assigned to any music that strays outside of accepted classification or sounds unusual. This
might include music that is based on improvisation, lacks a formal structure or uses instruments or sounds
that the listener is not yet familiar with.
"Experimental" is therefore a useless blanket term that should be avoided.
